The morning Darkness

by | Nov 15, 2021

Today is Monday and it is dark and still.  I decided to take some extra time for me this morning and left the dog sleeping in them mud room a little later.  I love this time even though I may feel some anxiety the night before about waking up to a new week, once I am in the morning I appreciate the peace it brings.

This morning is the close to a great weekend with Luke.  I love my time with him.  He has one of the kindest hearts for a 17 year old young man and I believe he really does enjoy spending time with me.  Our weekends together are usually filled with activity, shopping and house work, but then we get time to rest together.  My favorite times with him are when we watch movies or football together.  It usually works out that he is on one side of the sectional and I am on the other.   Our heads typically meet in the middle so we are able to have conversation while watching tv.  I know many kids his age wouldn’t be caught dead chilling with a parent and am so grateful he enjoys it.

I mentioned Luke is 17 and he is also a senior in high school.  We have spent many hours talking about the next phase for him in his life and all that lies ahead.  His college choices are all over the country, California, Colorado, Texas, NJ and PA.  While I would love for him to be close, Penn State is his top choice today, I want him to find a school that allows him to grow into the man he was meant to be.  As a Penn State Alum you might think I am pushing for him to choose the blue and white but I am not.  I want him to choose a school where he can find himself and not follow in the footsteps of his parents.  He has so much to offer and needs to fly.

I will miss him immensely while he is gone, that is probably the understatement of the year.  He has been with me through some really tough times and we have enjoyed some really great times together.  It is time for me to let go of him and trust that God will guide his path.  I only pray he doesn’t forget his mother while he is finding himself.

Gratitude for today: For the BEST SON ever, peaceful thoughtful mornings and warmth from this ridiculous cold.
