Tara Turtle Ride

Sunday, September 25

Two rides – one for more experienced riders (19 miles at a 13-14mph pace) & one for families and less experienced riders (7.5 miles at an easy pace).

We’ll start at the Bulls Island Recreation Area on the NJ side of the river.  (Google Maps Link)

If you’re not riding but want to join us on the bridge plan to be at Bull’s Island by 11:30.  I’ll come up with a plan to let non-riders know when we’ll be back to the bridge.  We’ll stop for a few minutes to remember Tara  on the bridge.

Post-ride gathering at Deb Presutti’s house. (Google Maps Link)

The gathering is BYO.  Our friends JJ& Karen will be providing some smoked chicken and pork. Please bring a side dish or dessert.

Feel free to bring beverages (non-alcoholic or adult) if you’d like.

Deb’s pool will still be open so bring a swim suit too.

If you’re interested in donating…

Tara had a love for manatees and one of the memories I get to hold onto was going to Florida with her and swimming with them. I can still hear her scream of joy through a snorkel as they came to us!
She wanted me to build a manatee habitat in her garage. I stressed the probable challenges of the project but she was adamant! Save The Manatee was important to her.

Also important, though with less of a personal connection, is The Appendix Cancer Research Foundation.  Appendix cancer is exceptionally rare and, because of that, research funding is limited.  Perhaps if research can grow someone down the road can extend their life or even be cured.

Ride 1 for more experienced riders

19 miles, 9:00am start.
We’ll start at the Bulls Island Recreation Area on the NJ side of the river.  (Google Maps Link)

Roll across the bridge, hop on the road for about a mile and a half then get on the towpath (if you’re REALLY skilled on a bike you can try jumping the creek where the bridge on the path is out but I wouldn’t suggest it).  We should have plenty of opportunity to say hi to animals on the way up the towpath.  We’ll cross the river at Frenchtown then head back down the NJ side.
This ride will be 19 miles. We’ll keep to a reasonable pace (13-14mph).  The surface is pretty good and road bikes will be fine.  This ride should take us about an hour and a half.

If you’re not riding but want to join us on the bridge plan to be at Bull’s Island by 11:30.  I’ll come up with a plan to let non-riders know when we’ll be back to the bridge.  We’ll stop for a few minutes to remember Tara  on the bridge.

Ride 2 – family ride for less experienced riders.

7.5 miles, 11:00am start.
Meet at the Bulls Island Recreation Area on the NJ side of the river.  (Google Maps Link)

We’ll follow the bike path south then cross the river at Stockton.  We’ll come back up the PA side and should see some turtles & other animals as we ride north.
This ride will be 7.5 miles. We’ll keep to an easy, family ride pace.  The surface is pretty good and road bikes will be fine.  There is one rough section on the PA side but it’s nothing crazy.  This ride should take us about an hour.

We’ll have experienced riders who know the route as guides.  We won’t let you get lost!

If all goes as planned we should be back to the bridge around noon (maybe earlier).

If you’re not riding but want to join us on the bridge plan to be at Bull’s Island by 11:30.  I’ll come up with a plan to let non-riders know when we’ll be back to the bridge.  We’ll stop for a few minutes to remember Tara on the bridge.
